Could Websites be a thing of the Past?
I know that this may seem a bit farfetched in some people’s eyes but with the recent changes going on with Facebook and the search engines I really feel it could be a possibility.
What I mean by this is the fact that you can now view a Facebook business page and all its content without being signed into Facebook! With this new revelation why on earth would you want a website? As a business a Facebook page is much easier to edit and update compared to most websites even if you do have basic IT skills. 
You pay NO Hosting or domain renewal cost and you can have as much information, tabs and apps as you care for. Clients can message you directly from the page so you don’t even need to have a business email any more. Anyone can now set up a pro internet presence for their company with no or minimal cost compared to setting up a website.
This is all good Steve but how will people find my Facebook page? especially if they are not signed into Facebook?
Well Google along with the other search engines are now starting to index Facebook pages in the search results. This means that someone can search for something in Google and see your Facebook page in the search results, click the link, like they would any other website and hey presto they are now on your Facebook page!
Now this is where it gets even better!
To get your page to appear on the search engine results all you need to do is optimise the page for your chosen keyword and then build a load of back links to your Facebook page. You can do this in 2 ways. Traditional back linking methods (Which can take forever) or by getting a load of fans. The second option is the quickest, cheapest and easiest by far. Remember each new like on your page creates a new back link to your page, the more back links you have the higher your page rank will be with Google and the higher you will appear in the search engine results overall.
Can you prove it though?
I have a lot of pages that I manage and have been experimenting with Facebook pages and indexing ever since Google announced it was going to index Facebook pages. So try this for proof. Type into google.com.au ” Buy nutgrass killer online” you will notice that my Facebook page on page 1 of Google http://www.facebook.com/nutgrasskiller
In fact I own the top position for that key phrase on google.com & Google.com.au, I am also on the first page for the following keywords too. “Buy Nutgrass killer” & “Nut grass Killer”. My results show me having up to 3 slots on the first page but have verified the results above with rank checker to make sure.
From here users can go to my Facebook page and buy my product straight from my Facebook page! For anyone who has a page rank checker you will also notice this page has a Google Page rank 2 which is pretty good considering I only started to market this page 2 weeks ago.
You will notice that the page has just over 2000 fans which are general fans from my network all around the world. I don’t care where these fans come from!
The point I am trying to make is that when customers are searching to buy my product online I am at the top of the Google results for them to find me. To achieve this it cost me less than 1/20th of what a website would of cost to do the same and I have the desired results within 2 weeks rather than 6-9 months for traditional SEO to kick in on a website!
Are websites a thing of the past! I think they just might be for every small business.
Oh I forgot to mention too, that once your page is at the top of Google all you have to do to keep it there is regularly update the page with some post and photo’s etc. NO ONGOING SEO COST!!!!!

Thanks for the reply. The main keyword I am going for is “Buy Nutgrass Killer Online”. The phrase “Nutgrass Killer” has jumped too then as that was in position 7 when I wrote this article. Its also the word Nutgrass as 1 word.

Despite the fact that Google has been focusing on ranking their own social media site, Google+, it seems that you can still lead the charts using Facebook pages. The disadvantage that you have is that you don’t have complete freedom of the design. It still follows the Facebook standard design, i.e. the Timeline. Still, good job on reaching the top, though. I bet a good SEO Re-seller would be able to do the same. I guess it’s time to work on a website together with an effective Facebook page like yours.
